Ok guys, it's summer time again. The same time last year I was starting this post and it was on and off succesful so let's get it back going. It's been pretty dormant for the past couple months so let's get some new things going. Here are some interesting fire starters:
1) What would Felix Hernandez's record be on the NYY or Boston?
2) Why is playoffs NBA basketball better and different than regular season?
3) Why is NASCAR on ESPN?
4) Can the DBacks, Pirates, Marlins, and Indians hold on all season and compete?
5) Why can't we all live near each other?
LET's DO IT!!

1) Probably the same 6-5 he is now. Maybe 7-3 like C.C. is but his numbers are not that spectacular. If Daniel Hudson throws one more quality start he's got the same numbers practically. He's 6-5. So I'd say he's right where he should be. Dan Haren? Now he's getting screwed. He's 5-4 with a 2.41 ERA. Worst run support in baseball. Again. The guy can't catch a break.
ReplyDelete2) I don't watch basketball. It's baseball season. If I wanted to watch children run around I'll go visit my wife's kindergarten class.
3) Why is Poker on ESPN? Because it's a crappy sports channel that concerns itself more with criminal trials, media created off court drama than it does with actual sports highlights and on the field drama. MLB Network has YET to talk about off field drama on any player. So I continue to watch it. ESPN? Not on my tv. Just about ever. It's just poor television.
4) Maybe, No, Yes, Maybe. Dbacks have the pitching where the Pirates do not. If that holds the Dbacks will survive now that the Giants are short their star player. Pirates have such a horrible track record it's hard to believe they can compete. At least the Dbacks have players that have won, albeit a few years ago when they went to the playoffs. Marlins are solid and that's with Hanley hitting like garbage. If he gets healthy and starts throwing it down again (he's at 4 Dingers right now...) they will be even better. They have some stud pitchers and a solid bullpen. I think they compete with the Braves for sure. Mets suck but with the Phillies?? No way.
Indians play in a division with the Tigers and that's pretty much it. I think they can do it. They have an awesome closer.
5) Arizona is home for me. Everything else is just a plane ticket away.
1) Your probably right about Felix's record staying the same based strictly on stats but my point had to do with something else. I believe there has to be some mental aspect and a certain level of confidence which reflects good Win/Loss records. Imagine if a pitcher's team started games with 2+ runs every game by the 3rd inning? Teams like the Yanks, Red Sox, and Philly's constantly do this which relieves the pitcher of stress and gives him a great mental mindset mixed with the confidence that he now has a cushion. Guys like Felix and Dan Haren are pitching into the 5th and 6th with a 1-0 lead or even losing 1-0 which kills there W/L records which unfortunately, much like batting avg, is a measurement of success to the regular sports fan. I think that Felix might have a different record more similar to Jon Lester (Boston) with an 8-2 and 3.98 era or Max Scherzer who is 7-2 with a 4.68!! Felix is 6-5 with 3.29! I would guess on the Yanks he would have a lower ERA because he would have more confidence and would probably be 9-3 or 10-2 with a 2.98. We'll never know but that's my guess.
ReplyDelete2)I get it, it's baseball season, we all love baseball. I would choose to have baseball over all other sports combined any day of the week but I also love competition. I love dominance, I love record breaking, I love arguing sports like who's a better point guard or where Shaq ranks all-time in Centers. I know it's overpaid thugs running around fouling like girls and flopping all over the place but in the playoffs it's different. The refs let them play, they only call blatant fouls that effect the game. In the regular season guys foul out all the time, they rarely do in the post season. I grew up watching Jordan and Barkley, my dad told me stories of Bird and Magic and the bullies in Detroit. I could care less about the 82 regular season games and the first two rounds of the playoffs, but the conference finals and the finals are good every year. I love baseball but the Red Sox/Yanks game wasn't on TV last night so I watched the Heat and Mavericks and was on the edge of my seat the whole game. My dad, mom, Mary and Ashley stayed up until midnight seeing what would happen. You should try it. Game 6 in Miami Sunday night. Heat have to win 6 and 7 at home to win it all. Oh and also this years Stanley Cup is straight amazing. Goalie fights, goalies checking players, 8 goal games, biting, and oh ya...it's Canada vs USA!!
ReplyDelete3) Couldn't agree more. Poker, NASCAR, and off the field drama should be removed. The only real sports info you can get now days is reading.
4)I agree. I think DBacks have the best chance of the 4 teams because of pitching. Pirates did just win a series against the Dbacks and the series before beat the Philly's.
5)Ya a $300 plane ticket away if not more. I wrote that last question really directed towards Jeremy, my dad, and Bobby. I forgot other people are on here because they never post. I wish we could have a Lourie commune somewhere and just talk baseball face to face all day.

ReplyDeleteYeah!!!
ReplyDeleteHA!!! It works now.
ReplyDeleteOk. First off, I think i had said something about all the Patriots being in a beach somewhere with their hot WAGs because of the lockout. (it was funny i promise)
1) What would Felix Hernandez's record be on the NYY or Boston?
maybe two more wins and 2 less losses.
2) Why is playoffs NBA basketball better and different than regular season?
same as any sport. best teams are playing each other for a championship
3) Why is NASCAR on ESPN?
it's the second most watched sport. second only to the NFL. back in the 80s it was only on TNN (The Nashville Network). Viewership skyrocketed and now every network wants it
.
4) Can the DBacks, Pirates, Marlins, and Indians hold on all season and compete?
yes. Dbacks will win NL West. i'll put that in writing.
5) Why can't we all live near each other?
We do. We just need to make a better effort of hanging out together. 30 minute drive is nothing.
